(And His Pathetic Foray Into Political Thought)

Its general election time again round our way.

On May 1st the nation will have the privilege of choosing which bunch of self-serving hypocritical bastards we wish to blame it all on for the next five years. Crass though the cliche is, this election *will* undoubtedly be unique in political history. Despite the fact that there are a wide range of parties to choose from, this time they are all Tories.

The official Tory party are obviously Tories. So, clearly, are the Referendum Party and the UK Independence Party. Since Blair's modernisation of the Labour party, they are now Tories too (you can smell them, you know), which leaves the Liberal Democrats, all of whom, without exception, could fit quite happily into the Wet wing of the Tory party if any of them were actually interested in power, which, thankfully, they are principled enough not to be.

It seems that hundreds of thousands of men and women of my grandparent's generation died defending democracy in vain. Hitler may have been defeated, but Thatcher was not, and democracy in the UK is now dead.

You want some examples? Here's some examples.

Witness the Greens, whose idea of lucid political action is debating whether or not to stand in the election. Nice one, guys.

Witness Jack Straw, *openly* competing with Michael Howard for the title of 'Britains Biggest Bastard', or Gordon 'Anything Clark Can Do I Can Agree With' Brown.

The so-called Labour Left are maintaining a shameful, cowardly silence, and I shall not speak of the independent left since there is none to speak of.

I shall not encumber you, dear reader, with tedious details.

If you are in the UK, you know what I mean, if not you won't really care.

They say each country gets the government it deserves. Does this really explain 18 years of Tory rule?

We'll be looking at another five years whoever wins the election.

The truly frightning paradox is that despite the fact that I think all this, I shall be very greatly surprised if I don't, like everyone else, vote Labour in a few weeks time.

You see, I hate all Tories, but I hate the blue ones much more than I hate the red ones.

For now.
