Buyer

if i was a buyer for a shop
i'd buy it flowers
buy it chocolates
buy it dinner
buy it drinks
and take it home.

if it wanted coffee
i'd say no
you work too hard
dear shop
it really isn't worth it
and i'd leave it there alone.

i'd never buy it anything again
of course
nor ring it
though i'd keep a warm
affection for it
in my deepest heart.

and if it ever changed its spots
relaxed
and served the people
not itself
why i could marry such a shop
we'd never part.
