Paying For Sex

goddess prayer

the poet in me dies each time
i fall in love
and is reborn
in worship of each new goddess
who blesses me in bed
and out
the voices in my head collide
competing each
to be the one
to write the prayers i dare repeat
to She whose Word i may not doubt

the god in me conspires meanwhile
to hide from each new goddess-queen
the truth about my past
and all the other goddesses i've known
for goddesses are proud as men
each slight, each insult
weighed in stone
and i must hide the truth from them
of other goddesses i've known

for women are the stronger sex
and patriarchy is a myth
convenient to those who
really hold the power of the throne
and women's subjugation is
the war of goddess and goddess
and i am but a mere man
a slave to She whose bed i bless

now is the time for Truth
and let
the scoffers scoff
the doubters doubt
the poet in me Knows
and trusts
in sex and magic -- not in love
i swear by all the stars above
by all the earth below my feet
by all the Chaos in between
Goddess is One
Her Name is One
now let my prayer be complete
