Little Blue Book

if what

when taking it easy
mean hiding the facts
when paying your dues
means avoiding your tax
when playing the game
is about breaking the rules
and the great and the good
meet the world as fools
when the light of the nations
is burning your soul
and the peace of the Sabbath
is kept in a hole
wiht a cover of iron
that's stamped with the name
of a bank and a staff number
who do you blame?

not yourself not your mother
your father or son
your employer your boss
all your friends all as one
not your lover your ex
not your husband or wife
or your daughter or sister
your brother your life
when the weight of the world
is bending your back
and the lies you must tell
keep your heart in a sack
when you take all the pain
and the pleasure as well
only then - if you do
are you free from this hell.
