Little Black Book (2000)

the lies that you can live with

when the lies that you can live with
are the only thing that's left
and you dangle on their string
of all but loneliness bereft
and reality is just a tale
they tell to scare the kids
and they're auctioning your memories
to all the highest bids.

when the days pass by in silence
without any sign of hope
and the nights would last forever
if it wasn't for the dope
when the tunnel walls are closing in
and somehow you are glad
and the only feelings left you
are the ones that make you sad.

when all is lost but everybody
pats you on the back
and they praise you for your weaknesses
and everything you lack
and you can't remember when
you gave up trying to explain
and you don't believe in pleasure
but you do believe in pain.

and you want to try and smile
but your lips no longer move
and you want to try and argue
but there's nothing you can prove
and you can't look in the mirror
'cos you can't meet your own gaze
no bridges burned, no lessons learnt
this is the end of days
