The Poetry of Avraham Ben-Yitzhak

The Lonely Say

Day leaves day a dying sun
Night mourns into night.
Summer after summer taken in the fallen leaves
The world sings from sadness.

And tomorrow we shall die, no saying within us,
The day of our leaving we stand at the gate with conclusion.
A heart in joy: for God has brought us closer,
And sorry and shaking for fear of sacrilege.

Day lifts day a burning sun
Night after night splashes stars,
Song halts on the lips of the lonely:
By seven paths we leave, and return by but one.
